Arafat vows opposition
NZPA-Reuter Jerusalem The Palestine Liberation Organisation leader, Yasser Arafat, has vowed to sustain the Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip into a third year. In a message on the uprising’s second anniversary, marked by bloodshed in the occupied territories and peace protests in Israel, Mr Arafat pledged that the revolt would continue “until the last Israeli soldier departs from our beloved
land.” As the message was published in Tunis, headquarters of the P.L.0., three Palestinians died of Israeli army gunshot wounds in the territories. The deaths raised to at least 594 the number of Arabs killed by Israelis since the revolt erupted on December 9, 1987. Palestinians have killed 151 fellow Arabs, most suspected of collaborating with Israel, and 44 Jews have died in the unrest.
