Another win to Senior
NZPA-AAP Melbourne The Queensland golfer, Peter Senior, has won his third Australian major win in four weeks and his biggest pay cheque when he won the Johnnie Walker Classic at Royal Melbourne by five strokes yesterday.. Senior carded 65, 72, 70, 69, to finish with 276 — 12 under par — while the world No. 1, Greg Norman, was all alone in second at seven under. The New Zealander, Frank Nobilo was joint fourth. Norman shot the best round of the day with a 67. , Senior, who won $lBO,OOO ($NZ241,383) for first, said he hoped the Midas touch that has helped him win the Australian PGA, last week’s Australian Open and yesterday’s $1 million event,
continues. “I’ve had a terrific four to five weeks and I hope it keeps going,” Senior said. “I had the feeling everyone Was behind me this week and it’s made my job a lot easier.” Norman said Senior’s brilliant form should launch him into world prominence and help him gain a ticket on the American circuit. « “If he can shoot those scores around here then he can shoot any score on the golf courses in America because they’re nowhere near as tough,” Norman said. Britain’s Howard Clark finished outright third with six under, after carding a one under 71 yesterday, while Nobilo, Britain’s Nick Faldo and Victorian veteran, Bob Shearer all tied for • fourth at five under the card.
