Double to turbos

PA Auckland Ford Laser turbos made light of the changes in the rules since last year to score a double victory in the New Zealand saloon car championship races at Pukekohe yesterday. David Slater, David Lange’s racing nursemaid, won both races, one from a traditional grid and the second from a reverse grid. This year the organisers have instituted a compulsory wheel change, but the Laser works team had no problems getting their man back on the track in fast time. In the first 20-minute race Wellington driver Mark Jennings, in his Toyota Celica, was at first declared the winner. A timekeeping check, however, disclosed that Slater had been missed on a lap chart.
