The officer will be located in the Conservation Sciences Centre, Wellington and will be responsible for developing or advising on monitoring systems, survey systems and recovery programmes for rare and endangered plants and for providing scientific advice on conservation policy and strategy in this area. Applicants should have appropriate tertiary qualifications (MSc or PhD), a thorough knowledge of the New Zealand flora, a strong research background in botany, and a personal commitment to conservation. ARCHAEOLOGIST HEAD OFFICE The Science and Research Division, Department of Conservation, has a vacancy for an archaeologist to provide advice, and to conduct research, related to archaeological resource management and interpretation. The officer will be part of a research team located in Wellington but will work closely with conservancy staff throughout much of New Zealand. Some travel will be required. He or she will undertake site inspections, evaluations and investigations and will be required to supervise contracts for archaeological field work. Some time will be available for research on a relevant topic in conservation science. A degree in science relevant to conservation is preferable, and experience in science editing and publicity, highly desirable.
