Ruling appeal
Fletcher Challenge is appealing against a Labour Court ruling rejecting its $lO million damages claim against the Labourers’ Union. The Court ruled last month that work bans imposed by the union early in 1988 on Fletcher Challenge products were a strike in pursuit of award negotiations. Fletcher Challenge has maintained the bans were a direct result of a rigging demarcation dispute at its Kawerau mill, where the company had given work to Engineers’ Union members in preference to Labourers’ Union members —PA.
