Meeting shifts
Southland correspondent Southland Racing Club executives have decided to stage their Gold Cup meeting at Riverton in January. At a meeting on Monday night, they agreed to the switch from Ascot Park to the popular seaside track. “It is important that the upgrading work is not interrupted or has any setbacks,” the S.R.C. secretary, Laurie Sutherland, said of the reasons behind the shift. • Don Carseldine, the caretaker of the Ascot Park racecourse for the last year and a half, has resigned. Mr Carseldine, who will relinquish his position on December 22 to return to the Central Districts, declined to comment on his departure. Mr Carseldine had a five year agreement with the . consortium, but it has been terminated by mutual consent.
