Bugner eyes Games
NZPA Sydney Former world heavyweight boxing contender, Joe Bugner, will make his long awaited return to athletics at this week-end’s Commonwealth Games selection trials when he picks up the discus for the first time in Australia. But for the man who has also pursued an acting career since his much publicised return to the ring went sour at the hands of Britain’s Frank Bruno last year, the athletics comeback is only half serious at, this stage. “I’m using my training now only as a platform to build up to the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. That’s when I’ll be really serious about athletics and representing my new country.” Still, Bugner is hoping to sneak into the Australian team for the Auckland Commonwealth Games next January by surprising a few critics at this week-end’s trials at the Sydney athletic field. _
