Wigram rejects racers

Riccarton-Wigram Community Board members do not want drag-racing in Wigram. ■Several board members yesterday reacted strongly to comments by a Christchurch City councillor, Ron Wright, that racers be moved from built-up areas to land at Wigram the council was acquiring. Mr Gerry Brownlee said

money should not be provided for facilities for law-breakers and to do so would be seen as condoning illegal activities. The board will ask the City Council to take no further action on providing facilities for dragracing in Wigram until it considers all relevant information. Recommendations will then be made to the council.
