Air signal identified

KAY FORRESTER
Wellington Search and Rescue believes an emergency locator beacon signal picked up in Australia yesterday was that of a West Coast helicopter that had a minor accident in the Fox Glacier area on Monday. An air search by an Air Force Friendship last evening failed to find another source for the beacon signal. The aircraft flew over the area south of the Fox Glacier to double-check the source of the emergency signal after reports yesterday afternoon from Australia were confirmed by an aircraft on a Tasman flight. Wellington Search and Rescue was alerted about 3.15 p.m. that a signal had been picked up near the glacier. The signal was traced to the helicopter that had had an accident in the area on Monday.
