New Aussie drama on Three
A new Australian drama series, “Home and Away,” is about to start screening on TV3. “Home and Away” has been screening for only a few months in Britain but is already attracting an audience of about nine million viewers, compared with “Neighbours” audience of 16 million.
The newest names to emerge as teen stars are Alex Papps, known to New Zealand viewers from “The Henderson Kids" (as Vinnie), and Nicolle Dickson, who plays his girlfriend, Bobby.
New Zealand viewers can also look forward to seeing John Farnham in later episodes and to an appearance by Kylie Minogue’s sister, Dannii. “Home and Away” centres on Tom and Pippa Fletcher, a couple unable to have children of their own, who foster five troubled children from broken homes, orphanages and institutions. The story follows their fight to keep the children after Tom is redundant in the citwand the family moves to small coastal town to take over a rundown caravan park. Produced by “Neighbours” creator, John Holmes, “Home and Away” is billed as having more realistic storylines than "Neighbours,” giving the series greater rele vance.
“Home and Away" is scheduled to screen twice a week for an hour, on Tuesday and Wednesdays, beginning in TV3’s second week.
