Kiwi may have fled Britain

NZPA London The hunt for a New Zealander wanted for questioning about serious crimes in Britain has switched to the Continent.

The police have called in Interpol to help track down Paul Bennett, aged 26, whom they believe may have fled the country and could be in hiding in Europe. Bennett, from Morrinsville, featured on the 8.8. C. television Crimewatch programme 10 days ago prompting

hundreds of calls from viewers of possible sightings.

The programme issued a full description of Bennett who has a a distinguishing mole or wart under the right side of his mouth. Detectives want to interview him about the alleged theft of a helicopter valued at more than £lOO,OOO ($271,159) and alleged frauds in Scotland. The police believe that Bennett might still be in possession of the helicopter, a Hughes 500 D, which

he acquired in London in March or April. “It’s possible that he could have fled the country in the ’chopper,” the police spokesman said;

Bennett flew the helicopter from London to Scotland where he allegedly carried out the frauds on local businessmen in the Aberdeen area.

Bennett, who arrived in Britain - from Australia earlier this year, is believed to be travelling' alone.
