AMP offer snares Pearl
Australian Mutual Provident Society looks set to win control of Pearl Group after its increased takeover bid for the British insurance company lifted its holding to 38 per cent. The managing director of AMP, Mr lan Stanwel, has confirmed that the Australian group had at least 35% of Pearl after earlier reports claimed it had snared about 50%. Later, figures from London indicated AMP had acquired 38% of Pearl following the purchase of 34.5 million shares. AMP had earlier lifted its 605 p a share bid to 690 p, valuing Pearl at Stgl.2s billion ($NZ3.34. billion) compared with Stgl.l billion ($NZ2.94 billion) previously. , ..
