Sir,—Your . correspondents, Moya Oxley and Ted Hicks, are correct; there is no organised religion in Albania. The People’s Socialist Republic in its first Constitution, published after the founding of the new State at the end of World War H, stated that “the Church is separated from the State.” The population of Albania is predominantly young, owing to a threefold increase in numbers since 1945, so that the average age of the people is now about 25.. closed and their large land holdings and properties have reverted to the State. The country is prosperous and has substituted the capitalist philosophy of “dog-eat-dog” for the philosophy of love for the community. — Yours, etc., J. LOCKE. November 17, 1989. Look anywhere in the Christian world where religion has reigned supreme for centuries, and the homeless, deprived and unemployed multiply annually. Yes, even in New Zealand! — Yours, etc.,
