Y.M.C.A. sale The Y.M.C.A. will hold a garage sale at its Hereford Street site today as part of its move into new premises next door. Residents have begun moving in to the first three floors which have been cleared for occupancy. The rest of the project is expected to be completed before Christmas. On sale today will be unwanted furniture and plant. Demolition of the old Mott House hostel building would begin on Monday, the Y.M.C.A.’s executive director, Mr Terry Hill, said. River rescue Two four-wheel-drive vehicles rescued a whitebaiter’s four-wheel-drive vehicle that was submerged in the Waimakariri rivermouth for 10 hours yesterday. The vehicle’s owner, who declined to be named, found he could not start the late-model Subaru after having unloaded his gear early yesterday morning. He watched it slowly disappear under the incoming tide, and a breakdown vehicle, which arrived after the owner called the police for assistance, was not able to retrieve it. However, by 3 p.m. the Subaru had been hauled from the river by two LandRovers.
