DIVISIONAL FINANCE OFFICER - SECONDARY CARE DIVISION Vacancy No. 4/545M The Secondary Care Division is the largest of six operating divisions within the Canterbury Area Health Board, with an annual budget of $l5O million. It provides a comprehensive range of acute hospital based services through the major acute hospitals, Christchurch Hospital, The Princess Margaret Hospital, Christchurch Women’s Hospital and Burwood Hospital. During 1987/1988 there, were approximately 45,000 inpatient admissions and 529,000 outpatient attendances. 1174 patient beds are provided. The Divisional Finance Officer is an newly created full-time appointment reporting directly to the Manager, Secondary Care Division. The appointee will be responsible for supervising the Division's budget and for ensuring that appropriate practical . advice and relevant information on financial issues is made available to the Manager, Secondary Care Division. The key tasks of the position are to formulate and supervise an annual budget for the division in liaison with the Corporate Financial Officer, to provide relevant financial Information and reports to divisional and clinical-managers, and to develop and implement appropriate financial procedures and systems to support these functions. The successful applicant should hold a tertiary qualification in the accounting field, with experience in formulating annual budgets, reporting on progress against financial statements, and a knowledge and experience of computer hardware/ software requirements to support financial management functions. Experience in the public health service would be an advantage. The successful applicant will have demonstrated sound interpersonal skills and an ability to work under pressure, and Witt relate easily to health professionals. -• A contract of employment will be negotiated with the successful applicant, which will reflect the seniority of this position.
