Maori rights
Sir,—There seems to be a belief among some of our M.P.S that the law is for the protection of .the majority, / whatever the cause or reasons, and that the wrong committed against the Maori, who were made a minority in .tlheir own country by undemocratic means, is a nonevent and should be overlooked. The decisions in favour of Ngai Tahu and Tainui in the courts have infuriated many, including some M.P.s. If someone took something of mine against my wish, at the very least it would be called dispossession but in fact it would be theft, robbep\ the practice of greed, insensitivity; just totally wrong. The play on words by the two M.P.s on land issues (October 14) seems to be for personal reasons, rather than for justice and for the good of all.—Yours, etc., T. TEWEEHI. October 18, 1989.
