I.B.F. crown retained

NZPA-AFP Middlesbrougn, England Britain’s Glenn McCrory retained his International Boxing Federation (1.8. F. world Cruiserweight crown in Middlesbrough yesterday when he knocked out his South African opponent, Siza Makhathini, in the eleventh round.

Maxing his tirst defence of the title he won in May, McCrory, aged 25, found the fight was no breeze. The end came when the 28-year-old challenger, his resistance at an end, slumped on to the bottom rope and then the canvas under a two-fisted

assault from McCrory, 67 seconds into the 11th round. Makhathini gazed blankly ahead while the American referee, Rudy Battle, counted over him and, despite the pleadings of his trainer only a few feet away, failed to rise in time.
