City petrol topped up by Timaru

Petrol stocks in Christchurch have been almost at rock-bottom during the last week, with fuel companies supplying local garages from Timaru. Supplies have been brought by road from Timaru because of the national ports dispute, but deliveries are expected to return to normal from today with the arrival at Lyttelton of the coastal tanker Kotuku. The Kotuku was diverted to Timaru during the metropolitan port stoppage after an interim agreement reached last week allowed conventional ports to resume work.
City stocks of unleaded 91 and super grade petrol were scarce, the Canterbury branch manager for Shell Oil (N.Z.), Ltd, Mr Ross Fletcher, said yesterday. “Everything has been hauled in from Timaru where there were adequate stocks,” he said.
Mr Fletcher said there was never a panic on regional stocks.
