The reform of education, and more particularly the requirements of Learning for Life formalise the process of preparing the charter and interim charter and public submissions, particularly in respect of the academic programme, are therefore welcome. UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO EXTENSION GEOLOGY STAGE 1 (Half Unit) Credit Course IN 1990 the Department of Geology will offer a half unit in Geology through the Distance Teaching Programme. The half unit, Earth Structure and History, will be presented through 14 fortnightly •teleconference sessions, and includes a 7-day on-campus course. No previous knowledge of the subject is required. UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO INTERIM CHARTER IN line with government policy the University of Otago Is preparing an Interim charter outlining the distinctive character of the institution and providing statements on educational purpose, values and goals and other related matters. As part of the process of charter preparation submissions on its contents are invited. Submissions are especially invited from: — Existing advisory bodies and other groups having an association with the University. — Other groups not formally associated with but having a clear basis for interest in the programme of the Uni- . versity. — Any groups currently underrepresented at the University whose members might be expected to have an interest in the programmes potentially available (group or individual submissions invited). — Members of the public. Copies of a preliminary draft of the Charter can be made available by the Registrar on request to assist with the preparation of such submissions. This Scholarship is valued at $5OO, and may assist a former pupil to render voluntary service abroad. If there is no suitable applicant under these terms, the Scholarship may be awarded to a former pupil who is studying for a University degree or diploma, or a course of advance studies leading to equivalent professional qualifications.
