The Chair is one of 16 at the College and the Council is anxious to fill the position with an appointee of high standing because of its significance, not only to the College, but also to New Zealand. Applicants should hold an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline of Science and have an established record of research and teaching in Soil Science. Applicants should have a proven interest in the wilder role of soils in the environment, with a competence in any of the major branches of Soil Science. The appointee will be expected to foster and develop the teaching, research and extension activities of the Department as a whole and to contribute to the research programme in his/her own field. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will be appointed as Head of Department for an initial period of three years and will be responsible to the Principal for the administration of the Department. Lincoln College will be granted autonomous University status in 1990. The 50ha campus is 21km south of the City of Christchurch. There are appromimately 2000 students on Campus.
