Quail Island race
A solid silver cup which dates back to 1877 will be at stake when the Arawa Canoe Club holds its Quail Island race on Labour Day. The trophy was presented to the winner of a canoe race at the Lyttelton regatta 112
years ago. A man named Matthews, and family descendants, gave it to the club in 1967. The race is called the Matthews Challenge Cup event, and it will start at Corsair Bay at noon.
