Exams affect rowing
University examinations have been cited for the relatively low number of crews entered in the first regatta of the Canterbury Rowing Association’s Kerrs Reach pennant series on Saturday. The regatta has attracted only 95 crews, compared with 152 for the first pennant last summer.
John Wylie, the C.R.A. president, said it was the first time the series had started as early as October. The entry comprises 15 eights, 35 fours, seven coxed pairs, eight coxless pairs, eight doubles and 22 singles. The river clubs, Avon, Canterbury, Union and Christ’s College, and three other schools will boat crews in the regatta which will run from 10.45 a.m. to about 3.20 p.m. No points will be awarded in the pennant series until the final day of racing on January 21.
