1st Echelon’s last big reunion held

PA Wellington The Ist Echelon will not hold any more big reunions, organisers say. Future reunions would be smaller functions in the main centres, , the Ist Echelon Association’s president, Mr Arthur Helm, said. "Some of the men are feeling their age now,” he said. The association’s last national reunion was held recently at the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington. In all 350 members, many with wives, at-

tended from throughout the country and Australia. The week-end function had been organised by 70 and 80-year-olds for 70 and 80-year-olds, Mr Helm said. It was decided that smaller reunions would be easier for members to attend. The reunion included a parade through Wellington, and a church service at Wellington Cathedral. Veterans also visited Trentham Camp, where many of them had been 50 years ago at the start of their volunteer service.
