Programme for cervical screening known soon
PA Wellington The shape of the national cervical screening programme recommended by Judge Dame Silvia Cartwright should be known by the end of the month, said a spokeswoman for the Minister of Health, Ms Clark. A committee of health consumers and professionals was set up to re-
view the programme following concern about the Health Department’s lack of consultation with either group. It met recently for what was to have been the last time. A draft report would now be circulated to members for endorsement before going to Ms Clark, the spokeswoman said. If there were any big disagreements the
committee would meet again to reach a consensus before reporting to Ms Clark. A committee member, Dr David Cook, the chairman of the College of General Practitioners, said agreement had been, reached over most matters though there was still' some disagreement over “issues to do with women’s rights.”
