The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra could be the focus of an annual national or international festival, suggests the conductor of the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra, Mr Theodore Kuchar. Mr Kuchar recently made his New Zealand conducting debut with the orchestra and said he was amazed at the level of hard work and discipline shown during rehearsals. If used properly the orchestra could be a financial as well as a cultural asset to Christchurch. Through sponsorships or simply by personal contacts, Christchurch could attract tourists and music lovers by hosting a unique special event. Educational concerts and special series directed at a diverse group of audiences could increase the Orchestra’s audience drastically, Mr Kuchar said.
