Thorate primed for win
NZPA-AAP Sydney Prominent reinsman Brian Hancock declared his outstanding pacer, Thorate, primed for an all-the-way victory in Friday night’s SAustIOO.OOO Italian Cup (2700 m at Harold Park after yesterday’s barrier draw. Thorate, chasing his seventh consecutive victory, had his prospects of extending that winning streak enhanced when he drew favourably in barrier three. “That is just perfect,” Hancock said. “It is the best draw he has come up with for a long time in a big race. “I won’t be frightened to try to lead from wire to wire with him.” Multiple Derby winner Rufus Young Blood, one of three Victorian-trained pacers in the race, drew barrier eight, Fellow Victorians Voight and Another Bart have drawn directly inside Thorate in barriers one and two respectively. Bookmakers have installed Thorate as favourite at 10-9, with Rufus Young Blood (7-2) on the next line of betting in early markets.
