Murray on new councillors’ video
New local body councillors in Christchurch will have a familiar face to explain the ropes. The Waimairi District Council chairman and mayoral candidate, Mrs Margaret Murray, will play a role in a video being made for new councillors. The National Transition Committee in Wellington has chosen Mrs Murray to outline the responsibilities of elected councillors. The project co-ordina-tor, Mr Len Ardell, says Mrs Murray was selected because she had a variety of roles in local government. Mrs Murray will be interviewed by the video’s
presenter and director, Mr Fred Cockram. She will also be asked to explain the relationship between a mayor or chairman and executive officers of the council. The 90-minute video will be made next week. It will be shown to more than 2200 new councillors at 17 seminars throughout the country on a national initiation day for new councillors on October 28. Other participants in the video are the Prime Minister, Mr Palmer, the chairman of the transition committee, Sir David Beattie, and the president of the Local Government Association, Sir Ross Jansen.
