Probe into crime rise in Hornby
By
BARRY CLARKE
The police are investigating the reasons for a big increase in reported crime in Hornby. Figures released yesterday show a 33 per cent rise in reported crime in the suburb for the year ending June 30. The figure represents a large proportion of the 17.4 per cent increase in reported crime in the Christchurch rural dis-
trict, which is more than three times the national average incrase of 4.9 per cent. A total of 4264 offences were reported to the five police stations in the Hornby sub-district, up 1146 on the previous year. The rural district commander, Chief Inspector Peter Coster, said the statistics would be examined closely to see why they were so high.
