PUBLIC NOTICE FROM DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND TIMBERLANDS £ CONSERVATION PROHIBITED FIRE SEASON WEATHER CONDITIONS have created an extreme fire hazard throughout the West Coast. The high risk of outbreak of wildfires or re-ignition of controlled burn-offs has caused the Regional Conservator of the Department of Conservation and the District Manager of Timberlands Ltd, to declare a prohibited fire season on land administered by the department and by Timberlands and land within 1.5 kilometres of these areas. All fire permits issued for the West Coast are cancelled, and no open fires are permitted until further notice. This notice is issued pursuant to section 22 (2) of the Forest and Rural Fire Act 1977 on September 12, 1989.
