NZPA-AAP Brisbane The world is lucky a hole appeared in the ozone layer above the Antarctic, a Queensland research scientist said. “Without it there would be no proof chlorofluorocarbons are damaging the atmosphere,” said Dr Grahame Kelly, a biologist from the Queensland University of Technology. “We can thank the Lord the hole appeared because it allowed action to restrict the use of C.F.C.S and the damaged atmosphere can thicken again,” he said. Dr Kelly, who specialises in plant biochemistry, questioned scientific claims that ozone depletion would wipe out marine life.
