New jet arrives
The first commercial aircraft to fly non-stop from London to Sydney arrived in Christchurch yesterday. The Qantas Boeing 747400 Longreach jet, City of Canberra, touched down after a 2i/ 2 hour promotional flight from Sydney. The aircraft is a long : haul jet. Its only New Zealand destination in the ■ future will be an Auckland stopover on the Melbourne to Los Angeles flight. The sAust2oo million aeroplane flew the 18,000 km between London and Sydney on August 16 and 17 without refuelling or landing.
