Crown summary starts
The Crown summary of its case before the Waitangi Tribunal on the Ngai Tahu land claim will begin today at the Tuahiwi marae, near Rangiora.
The hearing is open to the public, and is one of the last opportunities for people to attend the tribunal hearing of the claim. A date for the tribe’s closing address has not yet been set. Crown evidence has often supported the tribe’s claims, but there is still disagreement on matters
such as whether Fiordland was sold, or whether reserves (“tenths”) were set aside after the Otago sales.
