Balmain recovered from the concession of an early try and a second-half South Sydney recovery to win yesterday’s New South Wales rugby league premiership major semi-final, 20-10, and earn a place in the grand final on September 24. Souths will meet Canberra — which eliminated Penrith, 27-18, in Saturday’s minor semi-final — in the preliminary final on Sunday to find Balmain’s opponent.
