Temgesic supplied

A sickness beneficiary who was prescribed buprehnorphine (temgesic) tablets was convicted in the District Court yesterday of supplying three tablets of the class C controlled drug to a woman he knew. The defendant, Michael John Savage, aged 35, was fined $250. He had denied the charge. His counsel, Mr Tim Foumer, said the offence was a technical one, and at the lower end of the scale of drug offences. He referred to Savage’s being medically prescribed the tablets. Judge Holderness said he did not regard it as a technical breach. However, he accepted it was not a serious breach of its type. There had been no financial gain sought, and only three tablets were involved.
