Steinlen rallies to win
NZPA-AP Arlington Heights, Illinois Steinlen rallied in the stretch to overtake longshot Lady In Silver by half a length to win the ninth running of the Arlington Million at Arlington Heights yesterday. Frosty The Snowman, the favourite, led for most of the race before Lady In Silver, a. three-year-old filly from France, caught
him, only to be passed by Steinlen, a SUSSO,OOO supplementary entry. Frosty The Snowman faded in the final stages, with Yankee Affair taking third and El Senor fourth. Trained by D. Wayne Lucas and ridden by Jose Santos, Steinlen earned SUS6OO,OOO, Lady in Silver collected SUS2OO,OOO and Yankee Affair’s share was SUSIIO,OOO.
The winner’s time was 2:03.6 for the 2000 m, well outside the track record of 1:58.8 set by Perrault in winning the second running of the Million in 1982.
Three of the previous winners had been foreign horses — Tolomeo from England in 1983, Teleprompter from England in and France’s Mill Native last year.
