Home violence

Sir,—The Battered Women’s Trust would like to respond to an article published on August 26, “Home violence policy ignored.” In Christchurch we find the police are most helpful to women with non-violence orders. Their assistance in removing the violent offender helps alleviate a lot of domestic violence and stress. We are pleased to find our local police do not work in one of the guilty areas your article mentioned where the “police are not arresting domestic violence offenders.” We are also satisfied with their communication with support services in Christchurch, such as our own Battered Women’s Support Group. —

Yours, etc., NONI CALLANDER, Spokesperson. August 30, 1989.
