Constable hit on head
A young Auckland policeman nursed a sore head after a close encounter with a bottle of rum. The constable had just graduated from the police training school and was on foot patrol when he came across a man who had been lured into a side street off Karangahape Road and beaten by two transvestites. The middle-aged man had five or six head wounds from the beating with a stiletto heel, and while the constable was comforting him and waiting for help, the two transvestites were seen. Afer a struggle they were both taken to a police patrol car but as the young constable was putting one in the back he was hit on the head with a full bottle of rum. He was not badly hurt and two men charged with aggravated robbery and assaulting thg police.—(PA)
