Aust. to A.I.D.S. test migrants

NZPA-Reuter Canberra Australia will impose compulsory H.I.V. and A.I.D.S. tests on intending immigrants and will reject most but not all who are infected, the Government said yesterday.

Tourists who enter the country for brief periods will not be subject to tests but will, be given pamphlets about the dangers of acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Fifteen thousand people out of Australia’s total population of 16 million are known to have the human immuno-defi-ciency virus (H.1.V.). The government has allocated SNZ4O9 million in the next four years for A.I.D.S. education and research.
