Volunteers test skills

Sixty-four volunteers will test their rescue and lifesaving skills in civil defence competitions at the Blue Skies Scout Camp, in Kaiapoi, on Saturday. Eight teams, three from Canterbury, three from Southland, and one each from Oamaru and Timaru, will compete for six trophies. Each team of eight will test its skills in rescuing people from heights and damaged buildings, first aid, casualty handling, knots, map reading, and radio operation. The top two teams will go to the first national civil defence rescue competition at Queen Elizabeth II Park in December.
