Southern Ballet’s ‘Nutcracker’

Following their production of “The Nutcracker” (Act II) in May, the Southern Ballet and Dance Theatre is putting on a full-length version of the ballet during the school holidays. “The Nutcracker” was

first performed at the Maryinsky Theatre, St Petersburg, in 1892 to music by Tchaikovsky. The original choreographer was Lev Ivanov, whose work has been changed innumerable times to suit particular

companies. Russell Kerr has choreographed this verion. The company will be supported by members of the Youth Company in the children’s roles and ail performances will be staged at the Southern

Ballet Theatre, Arts Centre. The season, which runs from September 4 to 9 with two performances a day, is mainly matinees at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. with three 7 p.m. performances.
