‘Magicomical Kiwi Show’ on S.I tour
The “Magicomical Kiwi Show” featuring comedienne Linn Lorkin, is an autobiographical musical comedy about a shy farm girl from the Waikato who leaves university for globe-trotting adventures.
Lorkin, formerly Lyn Williamson, returned to New Zealand in 1986 after 15 years, many of them performing in Europe and New York, where she made a name for herself singing in piano bars. Her experiences as a New Zealander, singing in the competitive New York cabaret scene, are captured in her onewoman musical show, the “Magicomical Kiwi Show.”
The show is touring the South Island this month, for the Southern Regional Arts Council, starting in Timaru and Geraldine on September 4 and 5, Amberley and Hanmer on September 16 and 17, Rangiora on September 19, Hokitika and Greymouth on September 21 and 22 and Darfield on September 23. Lorkin’s husband, Herschel, from New York, accompanies her on stage with backing vocals, piano and acting roles. He is an accomplished jazz pianist with his own music group, the Nairobi Trio. Linn and Herschel are working at present on her second album. The first “In the Land of Music,” featured the popular track “Family at the Beach.”
