Poland

Sir,—Moral corruption has, indeed, eaten deeply into the fibre of the politburo of the Polish Communist Party, if correctly reported; it has now added its voice to the anti-Soviet rabble baying about “secret protocols” to the Nazi-Soviet pact of August, 1939. The Polish Foreign Ministry’s assurance that "the politburo condemnation did not mean that Poland was laying claim to land now in Soviet hands” is not from magnanimity. Who knows better than the Polish Politburo that those lands were wrested from the Soviet Republic by Western-instigated Polish aggression in 1920? Gratitude does not seem to be a strong element of the Polish character. The Soviet Red Army liberated Poland from Nazi occupation and terror, established and secured its Western border at German expense, and guaranteed its statehood by

joining with it in the Warsaw Treaty Alliance. These historical facts should be remembered by the Western-orientated puppets of the Solidarity movement. — Yours, etc., M. CREEL. August 24, 1989.
