FENCING Secondary schools History was repeated when the cousins, Andrew Kell (Burnside High School) and Karita Avia (Linwood High School), won the foil events at the New Zealand intersecondary schools’ fencing championships which ended at Linwood High School yesterday. Kell and Avia achieved the same double two years ago. Fifty-five fencers took part in the tournament from as far afield as Kerikeri, an orchading area north of Auckland. Canterbury had plenty of cause to celebrate with Linwood High School’s Clare Abaffy winning the girls’ eopee, Angela Lees (Avonside Girls’ High School) the girls’ foil plate, Cameron Maunsell (Burnside) the boys’ foil plate and Kell again winning the sabre title in convincing fashion.
