Trelay Boy for England?
PA Auckland The game jumper, Trelay Boy, could do his future racing in England. After Trelay Boy lumped his 66.5 kg topweight into a distant third in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup last Saturday, owner-trainer Ken Browne said he might sell the horse to an Arab sheik who was looking for horses to race in England’s glamour steeplechases. The sheiks have taken English classic racing by storm over the past few years and are now interested in the hunt season. Browne sells hundreds of horses every year, but never parts with his top ones. But after Trelay Boy battled away into third, 17 lengths from Tumblin’ Down and Vincere, Browne said the horse’s future at home was almost nil. “That run shows me he’s almost certainly finished in New Zealand. “The problem with good jumpers is they get up in the weights so quickly — they’re often finished after two good seasons.” Browne is adamant Trelay Boy would have fought out the finish with the other two if he had not been conceding them 3kg. And when the Arab sheik’s representatives come out next month, Browne will consider selling. “Trelay Boy would be a perfect horse for English racing.”
