Pentacom Systems, Ltd’s, flagship brand of hardware is the Ameri-can-based ALR (Advanced Logic Research). The ALR computers are recognised as being among the top three in the world in regard to performance and quality by most of the specialist publications. They are the fastest PC in the world and are specified for use in very high speed work stations for example, CAD/CAM applications, for network file servers and for Unix systems. Also popular are computers from Classic Data Systems. Classic’s computers are high quality, Taiwanese-made, state of the art technology. They are very fast, ranging from the top of the line XF series 80386 which runs at landmark speed of 43.5, down to the AS 286 which has a throughput speed of 15.9. Landmark speed is the recognised standard for how much faster they run than a standard original IBM personal computer. The company has the agency for the ALPS American-made range of printers. They range from
the ASP 1000 for home or small business use which retails at $630 through several increasingly sophisticated riiodels to the top of the line ALPS 2400 C which comes standard as a colour capable unit. It comes with full colour ribbon, is rated for continuous use all day and costs $3999. Also available are the OKI microline range of printers, including the very fast new models 320 and 321, suitable for medium business use and featuring excellent paper handling. They are attractively priced in the $lOOO to $l3OO range. Pentacom Systems, Ltd, is the South Island agents for NVS Lightspeed software, a product which enables the seamless interconnection of Wang VS computers to local area networks. CD/ROMs are an increasing part of Pentacom’s business. The company has a number of specialist systems available, particularly in the library, medical research and reference areas. CD/ROMs are a large market in the United States and are starting to take off here.
