Chch Town Hall ‘better venue’

The Computer Society’s national conference in Wellington last week showed that Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre was not as good as the Christchurch Town Hall as a conference venue, says Mr Derham McAven, chairman of the Canterbury branch of the society.

Mr McAven was co-organiser of the national conference of the society in Christchurch two years ago at the Town Hall, which shares many design features with the Michael Fowler Centre. Meeting rooms such as the Town Hall’s Limes Room, Cambridge Room and Conference

Room were missing at the Michael Fowler Centre, Mr McAven says.. When the society broke into groups for discussion these met in galleries around the main auditorium. The Town Hall’s meeting rooms made it the more suitable venue for such a conference, he added.
