That eventuality was made inevitable on Saturday when Hutt Valley beat Auckland, 116-83, and Porirua beat Otago, 94-78, in national second division semifinals at Madgwick Stadium. Scores: Porirua 94 (Shane Smith 27, Nenad Vucinic 19, Davor Dogan 18, Te Ahiwaru Ngatai 10), Otago 78 (Jerome Fitchett 32, Chris Pollard 12, Andrew Sheath 12, Steve Kelly 10). Half-time: 46-36.
