That eventuality was made inevitable on Saturday when Hutt Valley beat Auckland, 116-83, and Porirua beat Otago, 94-78, in national second division semifinals at Madgwick Stadium. Scores: Porirua 94 (Shane Smith 27, Nenad Vucinic 19, Davor Dogan 18, Te Ahiwaru Ngatai 10), Otago 78 (Jerome Fitchett 32, Chris Pollard 12, Andrew Sheath 12, Steve Kelly 10). Half-time: 46-36. Hutt Valley 116 (Tony Brown 22, Peter Pokai 21, Natu Taufale 21, John Kahukiwa 11, S. Taufale 16), Auckland B 83 (B. Johnson 18, J. Tuz 15, H. Smythe 14, G. Fowler 12, K. Harvey 11).
