North Is. wins bowls contest

PA Wellington The North Island indoor bowls team avenged its previous defeats by the South Island with a resounding, 3117, win at Christchurch on Saturday. It was a magnificent fightback by the North, coming from a 5-11 deficit after the first session to win convincingly. After a disappointing effort on the tour of the South Island, the women’s pair of Raye McCurdy and Diane Mackay were in magnificent form beating Bryony Immers and Linda McDermott, 23-17, 25-14, 24-15.

Results:—Men’s singles: R. Fleming (North Shore) beat R. Botting (South Otago) 1621, 20-15, 18-11. Men’s pairs: M. Bryant (Waikato) and D. Gilshnan (Manawatu) beat N. Warnes (Nelson) and T. Thompson (Canterbury) 15-16, 25-8, 2015.

Men’s triples: R. Eccles (Tauranga), I. Barr (Upper Hutt), B. Rainsford (Auckland) beat W. Kane (Southland), N. Lelievre (Southland), K. Anngow (Canter-

bury) 17-20, 21-16, 25-7. Men’s fours: J. Bullen (Upper Hutt), A. Bettridge (Waikato), I. Wheeler (Auckland), J. Zittersteijn (Upper Hutt) drew with T. Gould (Southland), L. Bellis (Canterbury), R. Webster (Otago) M. Cowan (Otago) 13-13, 14-8, 16-17. Women’s singles: M. Duncan (Golden Bay-Motueka) beat K. Ballinger (Hawke’s Bay) 18-14, 12-20, 20-12. Women’s pairs: R. McCurdy (Thames Valley) and D. Mackay (Bay of Plenty) beat B. Immers (Canterbury) and L. McDermott (Greymouth) 23-17, 25-14, 24-15. Women’s triples: J. Perrett (North Shore), J.
