The Irish rock band U2 will open their New Zealand tour with a concert at Lancaster Park on November 4.

The blues guitarist 8.8. King will be touring with the band, as part of the “Love Comes to Town” tour.

The long-rumoured tour was confirmed on Saturday. U2 first played in New Zealand in 1984, and have already sold 400,000 albums here, with four number one singles and albums.

According to promoters their live shows, previewed in the film “Rattle and Hum,” feature new production devised especially for the Australian, Japanese and New Zealand tours.

The group will also play in Wellington on November 8 and in Auckland on November 11.
