First fellowship
An Auckland high school principal, Mr Jim Peters, has won the inaugural Dame Jean Herbison Education Administration Society fellowship. The award enables Mr Peters, the principal of multiethnic Seddon High School, to attend a three-week intensive residential course in educational administration in Geelong, Australia. The award is endorsed by the Education Department, which has authorised leave on full pay for the selected applicant. Dame Jean Herbison, a prominent Christchurchbased educationist and former president of the N.Z.E.A.S., said she was delighted at the choice of the first winner of the fellowship. “He has achieved results in the significant areas of challenge for leaders of New Zealand’s schools,” she said. ’7
